Even if ministry leaders change, those named in this booklet as contacts will be able to direct you to the appropriate person.

We trust that you will find this booklet both helpful and enlightening.

All Saints' Vision Statement

All Saints' is a Christ-centered community of diverse people, inspired, led and challenged by the Holy Spirit. We strive to be welcoming, accepting and compassionate in our relationships and in our care for others. We yearn in heart and in mind for a deeper vision of God and for ways in which we, at All Saints', can work together, within the parish and beyond, to love God and our neighbours as ourselves."

Advisory Board

Chair: Mark Burch

Telephone: 905 723 9263

The Advisory Board is made up of representatives of all parish ministries, a youth representative, a member at large, the wardens and clergy. This group meets ten times a year, usually on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

The Board discusses the issues brought to this forum, providing counsel to and direction for the Rector and the wardens. Such counsel assists them in decision making. The meetings are held in a setting which encourages respectful and open dialogue.

Parishioners are encouraged to contact the Advisory Board Chair or any of the representatives if they have concerns that they wish discussed.

Preservation Fundraising Committee

Chair: Laura Elliott

Telephone: 905 666 8064

A worship centre as old as All Saints' needs constant, tender loving care, and maintenance to ensure its viability. The Preservation Fundraising Committee's mandate is focused on raising funds specifically for the preservation and restoration of our magnificent building.

Monthly 'blue envelopes' for preservation givings have been successful, as have specially designated 'direct deposit' givings . We have sold slates from the original roof (and we still have some, if you are interested in owning a historical memento.) Memorial donations are another source of funds.

Special attention is being given to the restoration of the stained-glass windows in our church. One generous member of our congregation has provided funds to restore one window but more windows need repair to restore their stained glass beauty.

Fundraising projects include our second Annual Turkey Time and Talent Dinner and Auction which was a great success. Christmas Cards featuring the beautiful Nativity Window in our Church are being sold by the Preservation Committee.

We welcome your ideas and help in restoring our beautiful Church! Please contact Christine or our Incumbent, Ken Davis if you are interested in donating your time to this committee or funds for the preservation of our building.

Property Committee

Chair: Dennis Hodge

Telephone: 905 666 2452

The Property Committee conducts an ongoing audit of the property and buildings that are All Saints: the church, the church hall and the offices. The committee reports to the corporation on any upgrading or maintenance to be done and any repairs that should be made. The corporation consists of the clergy, treasurer and church wardens, and is responsible for authorizing work priorities such as finances permit.

Stewardship Education Committee

Telephone: 905 668 5101

This committee has three goals:

1. To introduce a broader and deeper understanding of Christian Stewardship.

2. To offer guidance for the implementation of that understanding.

3. to emphasize that Christian Stewardship is a matter of concern throughout the year.

Christian Stewardship is an attitude that influences our lifestyle and is reflected in how we live our daily lives.

Stewardship focuses on the three 'T's' of: Time, Talent and Treasury.

Our committee's purpose is to make you aware of, and encourage you to give your time, talent and treasury to our church activities, committees and organizations.

This booklet outlines the many opportunities for you to give your time and talents. Your treasury is essential in regular financial givings to the church so that we can provide essential needs in a fiscally responsible manner.

The committee offers stewardship to newcomers coming from Confirmation classes, Baptismal preparation classes and the Newcomers = committee.

If you would like more information about the various church activities and organizations in general, or the Stewardship Education Committee in particular, please give Iain a call.

Wardens

Wardens

Roy Allam - 905 430-7213

Keith Wagar - 905 668-1612

Susan Sleith - 905 668-5650

Deputy Wardens: Barbara Holmes; Craig Kamcke

Telephone: 905 668 5101

The Church Wardens, together with the Clergy and Treasurer, form the Corporation of All Saints' Anglican Church. This is the legal entity which is responsible for the operation of our parish. The People's Warden and the Deputy People's Warden are elected at the annual Vestry meeting of our Parish. The Rector's Warden and Deputy Rector's Warden are appointed by The Reverend Kenneth Davis, our Incumbent.

Your wardens have three broad areas of responsibility: finance, property and personnel. Each of the three areas is strongly connected with the others. We propose an annual budget for approval by the membership of All Saints' at its annual Vestry meeting. We endeavour to work within that budget, while dealing the fixed, set costs and fluctuating givings !

We oversee the care and needs of the property of All Saints' -- the church proper, the church hall, and the office wing.

Personnel matters are also the responsibility of the Wardens. We are thankful for the dedicated and inspired staff of our church.

Your wardens are also your 'sounding board' and 'ear' for any of your concerns and ideas. Please let us know if there is any matter that should be brought to the attention of the Corporation.

It would be impossible for the Wardens to function without the many dedicated volunteers who lead an unending variety of ministries and groups within All Saints'. This booklet gives you an overview of these groups and will, we hope, inspire you to look further and deeper into the 'workings' of your parish.

Education Ministries

Faith Development

Contact: Gordon Sheppard

Telephone: 905 668-5101

All of us have unanswered questions. Whether we are new or long-time Christians we are called to be constantly growing in our knowledge of God and our relationship with Jesus, God's Son. While some questions may be answered in the regular teaching on the Holy Scriptures in the Sunday Sermon, all members of the Church need to work through issues of faith and Christian living in a safe, supportive and informative setting, like a small study group. Two bible study groups have been offered in members' homes throughout the year. Members and visitors have also been invited to share in one-day events or six-week Lenten programs offered in the church buildings.

Over the next year we are planning to offer a variety of study/fellowship opportunities for members and friends.

Would you like to step back in time and look at All Saints = as it existed almost 150 years ago? Herb Travers, our archivist, has catalogued documents and items from 1846 up to 1960. He is currently working on items up to 2002. All data will be indexed for reference purposes. Talk to Herb if you would like to have a closer look at our very interesting past!

This small group of volunteers assist in the education of families who are seeking the sacrament of holy baptism. Led by the Reverend Ken Davis, this team participates in instructional evenings which include prayers, small group discussions and shared information.

This ministry offers support, fellowship and education to the newest and youngest members of our church and their families and touches on many different facets of the Church and of the spiritual lives of the participants. Discussions range from the challenges of being a Christian parent in today = s society to why we name our children as we do.

Please talk to our clergy for more information.

Church School

Coordinator: Susan Morehouse

Telephone: 905 743 0172

All Saints' offers a full Church School program (ages 3 to 11) on Sunday mornings at our 10.00 a.m. service, from September to June.

Our teachers work in teams and we are attempting to have enough teachers for each age group to allow our Sunday School teachers to attend two church services per month.

A full, written curriculum is provided to our teachers so no experience is necessary; all you need is a willingness to serve this important ministry and you will be given the necessary tools.

If you are interested in becoming a teacher or if you wish to register your child( ren ) in Sunday School, please contact our Sunday School Coordinator, Susan Morehouse (905-743-0172), via the Church Office (905-668-5101), or send her an E-mail via allsaintswhitby@bellnet.ca .

See Church School Registration Form in Saints' Alive newsletter online.

Library

Librarian: Sharon Deane

Telephone: 905 571 3964

Did you know we have our very own lending library? We have more than 600 books and two dozen videos!

You'll find it located at the end of the hall in the breezeway, between the Church and the Hall. It is open every Sunday morning, and can be accessed during the week when the office is open.

The library functions solely on donations, mainly from memorials specifically designated to it. On occasion, books and videos are donated by parishioners, either from their own collections, or in memory of a loved one.

There is a wide range of non-fiction titles, and many adult fiction titles. Most of the videos are for children, and there are many books for young children and those who are able to read novels. All materials in our library expound Christian values.

Books are signed out by using the cards which are found either in the front or back of the book, or inside the video case. Borrowing periods are flexible. Two or three weeks are a reasonable time, but if you need to keep an item longer, please do so. I am assuming that as this is a Church library, people will be reliable about returning borrowed items. Returns are left in the basket on the desk, and are re-carded and shelved.

If you have any questions about the library, or wish to make a donation, please speak to me on Sunday mornings, or call me at home during the evening.

Youth Ministry

Telephone: 905 668 5101

Special events in the past include indoor rock climbing, mini golf, an end of season BBQ at Heydenshore , and

It is always an encouragement to be with young people who are pursuing the Christian faith. They express so clearly and honestly their desires, concerns and fears about the world they find themselves living in. This expression helps them develop a safe community together wherein they find support.

There are 15 to 20 young people participating in this ministry which meets on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Fellowship Ministries

Card Ministry

Coordinator: Linda Finigan

Telephone: 905 668 4969

This is a new ministry to All Saints'. Linda sends cards of encouragement to parishioners who are shut in, in nursing homes, or have been ill.

If you know of anyone who would benefit from an encouraging card, please contact Linda.

F ellowship Ministries

Evening Guild

Chair: Bette Sharpe

Telephone: 905 430 1940

Even though our name is the Evening guild, we hold afternoon meetings ten times a year -- once a month except July and August -- at 1:30 p.m. in All Saints' Boardroom.

We usually have interesting guest speakers, a short business meeting, fellowship and refreshments.

We work on crafts for the annual Bazaar and cater for luncheons amongst other fundraising projects. We also hold a corporate communion and participate in the World Day of Prayer services.

Fellowship Ministries

Funeral Hospitality

Coordinator: Dorothy Bugden

Telephone: 1-905 471 9599

This is, by its very nature, an 'on call' ministry. If a bereaved family wishes to hold a reception after a funeral or memorial service at All Saints', I get out my phone list.

Dedicated parishioners donate food and time to ensure that we present excellent, well appointed receptions which are greatly appreciated by the bereaved families.

Some members donate food, some help prepare and serve the food, and some do both!

If you would like to be on my list, to assist in this ministry, give me a call.

Fellowship Ministries

Lay Pastoral Visiting

Contact: Judy Pearce

Telephone: 1 905 668 9430

What does a Lay Pastoral Visitor do? The clergy try to visit all the shut-ins with communion at least twice a year. They rely on the Pastoral Visitors to visit during the in-between times, and help with the hospital visits. A Lay Pastoral Visitor regularly checks Ajax/Pickering Hospital, which is out of our area.

Both the clergy and the visitors rely on our parishioners to let them know of any new shut-ins or those who are in hospital. We would much rather have three or four phone calls about one person, than no phone call at all.

Visiting and spending time with our shut-ins is vital to their health, both spiritually and physically.

Please call our parish office if you know of someone who would benefit from our visits.

Fellowship Ministries

New Members Committee

Jackie Brama - 905 668 5101

Jane Mawson - 905 668 3295

The New Members Team is a group formed to provide a structure to enable new members of All Saintss parish to be welcomed into the community of All Saints'.

New members are contacted and are invited to a social gathering with other new members and our clergy.

Two receptions were held last year. At both gatherings, a tour of the church was undertaken and it was well received.

Pictures of new members are taken and posted on one of the bulletin boards in the church.

Fellowship Ministries

Newsletter

Editor: Heather Goodford

Telephone: 905 668 6271

Our parish newsletter Saints' Alive is published 5 or 6 times a year with editions covering February, Lent and Eastertide and/or spring and summer, September and/or October ( Fall ), and Advent and Christmastide. Copies of all current editions are available at the church office during regular office hours and can also be obtained every Sunday at the front and back entrances of the church. Saints' Alive is also published on the church Web site: http://www.allsaintswhitby.org

Our mandate is to keep Saints' Alive the people's voice and to encourage parishioners and ministries within our church to provide as much information as possible to be included in our newsletter.

Deadlines are announced or published in the regular Sunday bulletins. If you have information that would be of interest to your fellow parishioners, please contact me. Recipes and notices about special events are most welcome.

Please contact Heather for more detailed information about the newsletter.

Fellowship Ministries

Prayer Chain

Coordinator: Brenda Riviera

Telephone: 905 666 0763

The prayer chain is a confidential group dedicated to prayer. Our main focus is to pray for all members of our parish over a calendar year and to pray for anyone in need of prayer. The purpose is to uphold the individual needs in prayer in an emergency or if immediate prayers are needed.

We are comprised of 15 members with three groups of approximately five members per group.

To make a prayer request, you may contact me directly by telephone and I will make sure that all the members are notified. We do not need to know the details, but we do need your first name and what specifically you need in prayer.

Fellowship Ministries

Ride Program

Coordinator: June Barlow

Telephone: 905 668 5467

This program attempts to provide a ride to church for anyone wishing to attend Sunday services.

Parishioners willing to provide a ride to church are linked to those living in their area who have requested transportation.

It is the responsibility of the person receiving the ride to make contact on a weekly basis, usually on a Friday or Saturday, to indicate that a ride is needed for that Sunday. Those needing rides are informed if it is not possible to have a ride provided every week.

This program also provides rides to parishioners who require weekly or monthly transportation to complete banking or to visit their doctor.

Fellowship Ministries

St. Margaret's Guild

Chair: Janet Duke

Telephone: 905 668 7975

The 15 members of St. Margaret's Guild form a warm collegial group dedicated to fundraising and fellowship in our parish.

Last January the Guild decided to research the possibility of some renovations to the parish hall kitchen. Such a project will require lots of money. With that in mind we have involved ourselves in more fundraising projects than in the past - ranging from 'Soup 'n Sandwich ' lunches to special event fashion shows. Each fall we begin our preparations for the annual church bazaar. As coordinators of this parish event, our goal is to involve as many individuals and groups from our congregation as possible. We meet every Thursday evening for our bazaar preparations, usually in the church kitchen, to prepare a variety of culinary delights and work on craft items. This involves a great deal of time and organization as well as fellowship and friendship.

Please give me a call if you would like to join us and to find out more about St. Margaret's Guild.

Fellowship Ministries

Sunday Hospitality

Coordinator: Cheryl Kellas

Telephone: 905 666 2982

Teams of two or more people make coffee and tea and serve them together with juice and cookies or other treats after the 10:00 a.m. church service. The teams are scheduled to serve about every two months. If a team cannot be present for their regular Sunday, they can either switch with another team or call the coordinator who will find a substitute to take their place.

On special occasions such as baptisms, cakes are purchased by the coordinator and are served. The coordinator also purchases coffee, tea and other supplies as needed and is reimbursed by All Saints'.

It is not unusual for parishioners to donate sweet treats and cookies for Sunday Hospitality.

This is a very pleasant, ministry which takes up about 20 minutes of your time prior to a church service and about 40 minutes afterwards for serving and cleanup.

Please contact the coordinator for more detailed information.

Fellowship Ministries

Telephone Committee

Coordinator: Bonnie Reynolds

Telephone: 905 665 5181

How do you feel about making a few friendly phone calls each year? If you can do that, the Telephone Committee would welcome you!

The purpose of the committee is to liaise between the church and the members of the parish. This task is done with the help of a group of volunteers who call the parishioners on their respective lists to advise of upcoming events and happenings at All Saints'.

The committee is currently comprised of twenty-seven volunteers. Each volunteer has a list of 15 to 18 people so there is a definite need of more volunteers to get the lists down to a more manageable number. Any help we can get in this regard is much appreciated. So, get your dialing fingers ready and give Carol a call!

Outreach Ministries

Christmas Hamper Ministry

Coordinator:

Dianne Townson

Telephone: 905 668 3851

170 families received hampers through the All Saints' Christmas Hamper Ministry, 2002. Generous cash donations were made and our parish provided many gifts for children through our Christmas Tree Gift Tags program.

Apart from the gifts of food, money, toys and clothing, many of our parishioners also give generously of their time in ensuring that the hampers are packed, picked up, and/or delivered to the families in need. As you can see, you can support this ministry in many ways. We will start our planning in the fall. Give me a call if you would like to work in this very satisfying ministry.

Outreach Ministries

Deacons Food Cupboard (Food Bank)

Coordinator: Sandy Butler

Telephone: 905 666 9622

The Deacons Food Cupboard receives food and monetary donations from other local churches as well as from our own parishioners. This enables us to help over 180 families with food us provide special formulas for babies.

The food bank is open at the church office Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Emergencies are always taken care of promptly, whenever needed.

We welcome your donations of food or money!

Outreach Ministries

Outreach

Coordinator: Speak with Clergy

Telephone: 905 668 5101

The Outreach Committee initiated a Faithworks campaign for a 4-week period during May and June 2002. The youth group participated through a sponsored fast the last weekend of the campaign and raised $423.50; the youth group participants also assisted the community at places such as Denise House, Colborne Street Centre and Gate 316. It was a great opportunity for awareness and fellowship, and the event ended with a 'break the fast' barbeque at the Davis' home.

As part of an outreach initiative, the youth group sponsors a young boy in Mozambique through World Vision and keeps us abreast of his progress through an information board in the parish hall.

During Advent, the Outreach Committee instigated a program entitled "Enduring a Week of Welfare." This was an educational exercise to increase our awareness of the perils of life sustained by what is provided through social assistance. The participants posted their experiences on the Outreach Opportunities board in the breezeway of the parish hall.

Website

http://www.allsaintswhitby.org

Webmaster: Marek Suchomski

Telephone: 905 668 3295

Did you know we have our own web site?

I try to keep the posted information current. For the most part, this is done by attending church on a weekly basis and using the bulletin announcements as my source. The various committee/group descriptions can be found on the 'Ministries' Booklet'. Please let me know when you would like updates to these.

We have a beautiful 'window tour' of our stained glass windows at our site.

Our website also gives you access to our Saints' Alive newsletter.

Worship Ministries

Chancel Guild

Chair: Jennifer Dewer

Telephone 905 668 1408

It is no accident that the Chancel is beautifully appointed for each Sunday Service and for festivals and special events! Five dedicated teams polish brass and silver, replenish candles, arrange flowers and change fair linen and colours, according to the church calendar, as well as ensuring special decorations are in place for Christmas, Easter and Harvest Thanksgiving.

Each Sunday, after services, Chancel Guild members also deliver altar flowers to parishioners who are sick or shut in. If you would like to deliver flowers to a person in need, stop at the Sacristy door on your way home from church and the Chancel team will be glad to wrap a bouquet for you to deliver!

The five rotating teams meet as a group in January and November and at an informal dinner held in June. Decorating plans, wedding schedules, decisions to repair or replace linens are discussed at these meetings as are our updated schedules.

This ministry gives loving attention to the beauty and function of our church. Members serve as part of warm and caring teams, working together in harmony for the benefit of all parishioners.

Worship Ministries

Choirs

Music Director: Adriaan Bakker – 619 0259

Assistant Organist: Barb Tutton

Music in worship is a reflection of God's glory in the hearts, minds and voices of human beings. It is not an act; it is not a display of skill; it is not a gig or performance. It is a means of worship - Eldon Balko .

Our Senior Choir provides musical leadership in four-part harmony for the main Sunday service. Senior choristers look forward to rehearsing Thursdays from 7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and another 20 minutes from 9:30 a.m. prior to the Sunday service. We are in particular need of altos this year.

The Chereb Choir rehearses on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to noon except on the first Sunday of the month. On these Sundays, they meet before the service for a short rehearsal and warmup and participate in the worship service as part of the children's focus.

We are looking for people who play an instrument…trumpet, flute, violin, other? Virtuosity is not required, but the ability to prepare a piece of music on your own, with a few rehearsals, would be helpful. Anyone interested and able to make a financial donation to support the music program would be appreciated.

Worship Ministries

Flowers

Flower Coordinator: Marilou Camelford

Telephone: 905 668 6503

The altar flowers placed lovingly each Sunday by the Chancel Guild are donated in memoriam or thanksgiving by parishioners of All Saints'.

Seasonal flowers, such as Christmas Poinsettias, are also donated. The Flower Coordinator keeps a list of members who donate flowers for the Chancel and the Lady Altar and has some Sunday openings throughout the year.

If you would like to remember a loved one or give thanks in this way, or if you would like to know more about the beautiful flowers inside our church, give Jennifer a call.

Worship Ministries

Grateful Book

Grateful Book Coordinator: Brenda Riviera

Telephone: 905 668 0763

The Powerhouse of Prayer workshop was the seed of the Grateful Book.

At that workshop we were asked, as a group, to identify something that we could implement in a prayerful way. We talked about a variety of things at our church, worshipping, our surroundings, etc.

As a group, we decided that we all had wonderful comments to make about our church and so many things that we are all Grateful for.

The Grateful Book came into being.

This is a place where you can express your thoughts of gratitude and appreciation. As Christians, we are very grateful for our wonderful church and fellowship.

The book is located at the main entrance to the church.

Take a moment to express your thoughts of gratitude and appreciation in the Grateful Book.

Healing Service

Lay Anointer: Jacky Bramma - 905 668 4715

Lay Anointer: Brenda Riviera - 905 666 0763

When we started this Ministry, it was new to all of us. The Parish embraced with obvious need, our once-a-month healing service. In the summer, this was expanded to both services once a month.

We are continuing to offer the 'oil for healing' at both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services on the third Sunday of each month.

If you feel called to either of these ministries, please speak to Ken or Gordon.

Worship Ministries

Servers

Contact: Clergy, All Saints

Telephone: 905 668 5101

Our servers are a group of intergenerational people who enjoy assisting in worship.

Servers lead the choir and clergy during the processional and recessional hymns. They lead the children out to their church school classes, and assist the clergy at the Lord's Table.

Instruction and training is provided for servers, together with 'on the job' training.

If you are interested in this ministry, please speak to one of the clergy.

Worship Ministries

Sidespersons

Sidespersons ' Co- Ordinator : Anne Nurse Richardson

Telephone: 905 430 6157

Good morning, Hello, how are you? Welcome to All Saints!

You have just made your first contact with a member of All Saints' – a SIDESPERSON.

The Sidesperson is always at church early to prepare any handouts and to assist with any necessary preparations that may be required for the upcoming service.

This year we have more than fifty active members who regularly attend the 8:00 am , and the 10:00 am service. The membership ranges from high-school students as young as thirteen to seniors who are aged eighty five to ninety years.

This year we have seen some of our members retire after twenty five years of service, yet we still have members with over forty years of service as Sidespersons . Sadly, we have had a couple of members who have passed on.

While members are still rising to the occasion to assist in this part of our Ministry, we are always actively trying to recruit new members for this rewarding ministry.

If you are a member of All Saints' and would like to meet and greet both new people and our regular parishioners with a smile and a few kind words, then give me a call and we can start you on the road to joining our team.

Worship Ministries

Sunday Nursery

Sunday Nursery Coordinator:

Telephone: 905 668 5101
